Caring for your candle

All candle lovers struggle with issues that are common across the board – from smoking to discolouration to creating holes. We believe that a candle needs attention and doing a few things will ensure that it lasts long and burn evenly all the way down.

Storing your candle

Always store your candle in a cool, dark and dry place to ensure maximum scent throw. Excessive heat and sunlight can cause the candle to sweat, which affects the scent of the candle.

Lighting your candle

When burning a candle for the first time, let it burn for as long as the width of the diameter until the whole surface is liquid. This will prevent your candle from forming a hole in the centre. So, if the diameter is 3 inches, then burn your candle for 3 hours, if 2 inches, then 2 hours and so and so forth. Believe it or not, every candle has a memory and burning it this way sets its memory, so that every time you burn the candle it will ‘remember’ to burn to its edge.

Trimming The Wick

Trim the wick to ¼ - inch length before re-lighting it to maximise burn-time, eliminate smoke and minimise unsightly soot formation around the edge of the glass. Do not let wick trimmings fall into the wax.

Extinguishing your candle

We suggest that you do not blow the flame out. Not only can this damage the candle, it would emanate the smell of smoke. Always use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame.

Safety

Never leave a lit candle unattended. Always place your candle on a level, heat resistant, non-flammable surface away from fabric or drapes. Avoid all drafts and do not place your candle on a marble or glass surface.
